Carly Hoeft of Hutchinson died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at the Hutchinson Community Hospital in Hutchinson. He was 84.
A Celebration of Life was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Vineyard United Methodist Church in Hutchinson with Pastors Kaye Brandt and Robert Hoeft officiating.
Carlos "Carly" August Hoeft was born March 14, 1928, in Kimball to August and Anna (Mielke) Hoeft. Carly was baptized as an infant, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth at United Methodist Church in Kimball. He received his education in Kimball. In 1944, his family moved to Hutchinson and he graduated with the Hutchinson High School Class of 1946. Carly played in the State Basketball Tournaments in 1945 and 1946.
June 29, 1946, Carly was united in marriage to Muriel "Pat" Zajicek at the Methodist Church in Las Vegas, Nev. This marriage was blessed with two children, Jeff and Julie. Carly and Pat resided in California, until they moved to Hutchinson in 1948. They shared 66 years of marriage.
In his younger years, Carly was employed at the Coke Plant and for Zajicek Construction in Hutchinson. In 1959, Carly opened Carly's Shoes in Hutchinson. He retired in 1989. Carly was a member of Vineyard United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. He was also a member of Twin Point Gun Club, Optimist Club, the Tuesday Morning Club, Gopher Campfire and continued to partipate in a lifelong card club group.
Carly enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting and fishing. He took pride in his lawn and yard work. Carly enjoyed his volunteer work with Bill Scherer at Vineyard Methodist Church. He also helped with roadside ditch cleanup. Carly was a joker and enjoyed telling stories and having coffee with the guys. He cherished the time he spent with his family, grandchildren and friends.
Carly was preceded in death by his parents August and Anna Hoeft; brothers Erwin Hoeft, Martin Hoeft; sisters Helen Hoeft, Beatrice Lee, and Evelyn Abbott.
He is survived by his wife Muriel "Pat" Hoeft of Hutchinson; children Jeff (and Marlys) Hoeft of Hutchinson, Julie Hoeft of Florida; grandchildren Carl (and Judy) Hoeft, Kristine Fjerstad, Alyona Palhof, Caleb Palhof; great-grandchildren Jared and Summer Hoeft, Riley Fjerstad, Brodie Papenfuss, Gabriela Meyers; sisters Luella Nelson of Cosmos, Minn., Alice Root of Kingston; and many other relatives and friends.
Organist was Kay Hayden. Special music was by Jared Hoeft, Carl and Judy Hoeft, and the Hoeft family. Honorary pall bearers were Julie Hoeft, Dale Redetzke, Fred Alberts, Harold Grams, Chuck Wixcey, Eugene Henke, Ruth Schwarze, George Moehring, and Bruce Christianson.
