Hunting accident in Paynesville Township

Saturday, Nov. 3, at 5:20 p.m. the Stearns County Sheriff's Office answered to a report of a hunting accident at 26536 Copperfield Road in Paynesville Township.

Deputies met with the victim at the Paynesville Hospital who said he was sitting in his deer stand when he accidentally shot himself in the foot with his shotgun. The 14-year-old boy from Eagan had been hunting alone when the incident happened and noone else was injured. The boy had a firearms safety certificate, and had a few years' hunting and shooting experience. The victim sustained minor injuries to his foot.

The Sheriff's Office reminds hunters to use caution when handling firearms and always leave the weapon on "safe" until you intend to use it.

Rollover fatality Nov. 4

Sunday, Nov. 4th, at 3 a.m., the Meeker County Sheriff's Office received a report of a one-vehicle rollover on CSAH 3 just west of Minnesota Hwy. 4 in Union Grove Township. Meeker County Deputies, Minnesota State Patrol, Grove City Rescue, Grove City Fire, Paynesville Ambulance, and North Memorial Helicopter were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, units located a 2002 Lincoln 4-door car that had rolled over and was on its roof. Trapped inside the vehicle was a 32-year old man. Near the car, in a field, a 22-year old female was located; she had been ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Both victims were from Willmar.

While extrication was being conducted, a landing zone was secured for North Memorial Helicopter. As the North Memorial Helicopter landed at the scene, Grove City Fire and Rescue extracted the man from the car. Once extricated, North Memorial Air flew the man to North Memorial Hospital where he remains in ICU.

The female found dead at the scene has been identified as Andrea Lee Diaz. The 32-year-old man has been identified as Lazaro Domingo Diaz, believed to be the driver of the car at the time of the crash. Lazaro and Andrea Diaz were married.

Assisting at the scene was Grove City Fire, Grove City Rescue, Paynesville Ambulance, North Memorial Helicopter, Stearns County Sheriff's Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.

Wright County Sheriff's Office

Oct. 31, Mitchell Thomas Boltz, 22 of South Haven, was arrested in Annandale on the charges of criminal damage to property and false information to police.

Oct. 31, Pamela Joan Ahlm, 50 of Annandale, was arrested in Corinna Township on a Wright County warrant for stalking.

Nov. 1, Cody Todd Welte, 19 of Cokato, was arrested in Itasca County on a Wright County warrant for theft.

There were 8 property-damage accidents, 1 personal-injury accident, 1 hit-and-run accident, and 5 car-deer accidents.

There were 5 arrests for DWI,

2 underage-consumption arrests,

1 school bus stop-arm violation, and

32 tickets for miscellaneous traffic violations issued this week.

Monday, November 6

12:41 a.m. a Sheriff's Deputy observed a suspicious male walking along US Highway 12, Dassel Township. Jesse Lawerance Dawson, age 26, of Dassel, was arrested for 5th Degree Controlled Substance Possession, Possession of Burglary/Theft Tools, Possession of a Drug Without a Prescription, Carrying a Weapon Without a Permit, and Carrying a Weapon While Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance.

Sunday, November 4

12:46 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to an alarm at Valley Quick Stop, Meeker Avenue West, Eden Valley. All was found to be okay on arrival and it was a false alarm.

12:40 p.m. the Sheriff's Office spoke to an individual at a residence on 683rd Avenue, Forest City Township, reference trespassing. The MN DNR was contacted and will be taking care of the problem.

12:54 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a dog complaint at a residence on 367th Street, North Kingston Township. The deputy spoke to all parties involved and advised them of their options.

5:44 p.m. the Sheriff's Office issued a deer possession tag to an individual at a residence on 340th Street, Manannah Township.

6:33 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to an animal complaint near the intersection of 215th Street and 575th Avenue, Greenleaf Township. The injured deer had walked away on its own prior to the deputy's arrival.

8:26 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of a car/deer accident on County State Aid Highway 19, Kingston Township. No injuries were reported and a deer possession tag was issued to the driver.

9:29 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of possible child abuse at a residence on Brooks Street South, Eden Valley.

Saturday, November 3

12:58 a.m. a Sheriff's Deputy came across an abandoned vehicle on MN Highway 15, North Kingston Township. The vehicle was not a road hazard.

4:53 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received an alarm at the Valley Inn, State Street North, Eden Valley. The deputy was canceled prior to arrival as it was a false alarm.

8:10 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a cellular 9-1-1 call reporting they had gone in the ditch on MN Highway 15, Kingston Township. There were no injuries reported. The call was transferred to the MN State Patrol.

9:09 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received an alarm at the Red Goat Bar & Grill, Central Avenue North, Watkins. The deputy was canceled prior to arrival as it was a false alarm.

9:39 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to an animal complaint on County State Aid Highway 21 in the area of 695th Avenue, Kingston Township. The owner of the cattle was advised of the complaint and they also secured the animals.

12:08 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to an individual that needed some assistance at a residence on Church Street, Watkins. One individual was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital.

1:05 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a car-deer accident on County State Aid Highway 2, Forest City Township. There were no injuries reported. A deer possession tag was issued for the animal. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

6:53 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of a car/deer accident on MN Highway 15, Dassel Township. No injuries were reported and the deer was off the roadway. The MN State Patrol was also advised of the call.

8:14 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a car/deer accident near the intersection of 370th Street and 650th Avenue, Forest Prairie Township. A deputy put down the deer and a deer possession tag was issued to the driver for the deer. No injuries were reported.

8:38 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Dassel Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance to a medical at a residence on 305th Street, Kingston Township. One individual was treated on scene and no transport was needed.

9:33 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to assist the public at a residence in the Watkins Trailer Park, Watkins. A report will be filed.

10:32 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of suspicious activity at a residence on Central Avenue South, Watkins. All was found to be okay on arrival.

Friday, November 2

12:04 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to do a welfare check on an individual at a residence on Church Street, Watkins. Upon arrival the deputy found everything to be okay.

4:14 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to check the welfare of an individual, per the request of Wright County, at an address on County State Aid Highway 21, Kingston Township. Prior to the deputy's arrival Wright County called back and advised they had made contact, everything is okay and to cancel.

7:49 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of theft by check at a residence on 4th Street South, Grove City. The deputy spoke to the individuals involved and advised of options.

8:54 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a burglary from a residence on 4th Street South, Grove City.

Thursday, November 1

6:29 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a suspicious person on County State Aid Highway 34, Forest City Township. The individual left the area prior to the deputy's arrival.

6:42 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle near a residence on 617th Avenue, Manannah Township. The vehicle was found to have been stolen from the City of Eden Valley and a report will be filed.

8:05 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a theft from an address on 2nd Street North, Grove City.

9:01 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a request for a deer possession tag for a deer that was killed on MN Highway 15, Dassel Township. The caller was transferred to the MN State Patrol.

1:15 p.m. the Sheriff's Office assisted the MN DNR in putting down an injured deer near a residence on 305th Street, Kingston Township. A deer possession tag was also issued to an individual.

3:50 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a theft from a residence on 350th Street, North Kingston Township.

4:07 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a car/deer accident on MN Highway 22, Ellsworth Township. No injuries were reported and the deer was off the roadway.

Wednesday, October 31

2:35 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched the Eden Valley Rescue Squad and Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Church Street North, Eden Valley. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

4:07 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a domestic at a residence on 340th Street, Forest City Township. The Litchfield Police Department assisted at the scene.

9:53 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of criminal damage to property at Ness Church, 580th Avenue, Litchfield Township.

7:21 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an injured deer along MN Highway 22 near 180th street, Greenleaf Township. Upon arrival the deputy put down the deer and a possession tag was issued.

9:35 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a theft from a residence on 300th Street, Harvey Township.

10:24 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a dog complaint at an address on Cedar Avenue North, Watkins. Upon arrival the dog had left the area.

Tuesday, October 30

9:58 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received information of a scam attempt at a residence on Central Avenue North, Watkins. No money was lost and the individual was advised of their options.

11:28 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of sheep out on the road near a residence on 725th Avenue, Kingston Township. Contact was made with the owner who was en route to contain the animals.

2:03 p.m. the Litchfield Fire Department responded to a grass fire at the Litchfield Police Gun Range, on 615th Avenue. Meeker County Deputies were already on scene and were training with 37mm Launcher systems that started a small grass fire that was unable to be fully extinguished by a fire extinguisher. One of the gas projectiles from the launcher caused a grass fire to ignite along the backstop of the range. The fire was fully extinguished by fire personnel without other damage to property.

3:18 p.m. a Sheriff's Deputy made a traffic stop near the intersection of Church Street and Central Avenue, Watkins. Willard Eugene Grossinger, age 62, of Watkins, was arrested for Driving after Cancellation-Inimical to Public Safety and No Insurance.

Monday, October 29

12:17 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Dassel Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance for a medical at a residence on County State Aid Highway 19, City of Kingston. One individual was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital.

9:58 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a request to assist in unlocking a vehicle at a residence on County State Aid Highway 19, Kingston Township. The deputy was canceled prior to arrival as the caller had made other arrangements.

11:55 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a theft from a residence in the Watkins Trailer Park, Watkins.

2:43 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of a theft from a garage at a residence on 724th Avenue, Kingston. The deputy was canceled prior to arrival as the caller had remembered where the items were.

6:07 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a dog complaint on 365th Street, Forest Prairie Township. Upon arrival of the deputies the owner of the dog was issued a citation.
