Fairmont was the warm spot Sunday

By Mark Anthony, Meteorologist

Weather column: For the most part, we had a pretty decent weekend across Minnesota this past weekend. Saturday, temperatures were generally in the 50s and 60s. However, by Sunday, highs jumped into the 70s across much of southern Minnesota. Fairmont was the warm-spot across the state with a high of 73 degrees. Alexandria had more "normal" conditions for this time of the year with a high of 54 degrees on Sunday. That was right on track for the average high for this time of the year.

By Monday, (Oct. 22) an area of low pressure spread out of the Rockies and that brought some scattered showers and thunderstorms to southern Minnesota. A southwesterly jet brought the chance of showers and even some isolated thunderstorms to the area through Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Some of those showers and isolated thunderstorms could produce some brief heavy rainfall on Wednesday into Wednesday night. A few of these showers could linger into early Thursday. Following the rainfall, fog could be an issue on Thursday as the winds back down across the Upper Midwest.

Thursday, we could even see a rain/snow mix as temperatures cool-off into the 30s and lower 40s. Light snow is possible mainly in the morning and again late in the day as temperatures are cooler.

On the backside of this system cooler and drier air will return by Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will also be chilly during the latter portion of the week. Rain is possible again by Sunday.

Have a great rest of the week!
