Kimball Classroom of the week-Mrs. Herrington's 5th grade

Mrs. Sand is our student teacher. We have 19 students in our class.

Some of what we're working on this year are:

D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)

Working together as a TEAM (together everyone achieves more)

Organization and study skills

United States history: Native Americans, explorers of the world, Revolution War and the establishment of the 13 colonies, the election and government process

Math: add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers, algebraic expressions, fractions, measurement, geometry, probability, and MCA preparation
Writing: compose a variety of writings including poetry, research papers, journals, essays and more

Reading: daily classroom and independent reading to promote life-long reading skills

Our field trip this year will be an overnight trip to Northern Minnesota to include: William Irvin, Canal Park, and the Glensheen Mansion in Duluth, travel to Giants Ridge near Biwabik, a tour of the Soudan Underground Mine, the oldest and deepest iron ore mine in Minnesota (we'll travel 2,341 feet to the 27th level of the mine!)

We will spend five weeks with an Integergenerational Program through Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins, too.

As a fundraiser for our field trip, fifth-graders currently are selling Knaus meat packages and gift cards. This fundraiser ends this Friday, Oct. 26. Please contact Mrs. Herrington or Mrs. Niemi if you are interested in ordering!
