Stearns History Museum and Research Center appoints Annette Atkins as Interim Director
Dr. Annette Atkins, Professor of History and Flynn Professor in the Humanities at the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University, has been named interim Executive Director of the Stearns History Museum and Research Center. Charlene Akers, who left the Museum in September, brought the very successful dinosaur exhibit "Sue" to the Museum, secured funds to improve the physical plant, and welcomed the skateboard park neighbors.
"The Stearns History Museum and Research Center is one of the finest county historical museums in the state and a tremendous resource for Central Minnesota," said Barclay Carriar, chair of the museum's Board of Directors. "We appreciate Charlene Akers' contributions over the past three years and wish her the best in her new professional pursuits. We are excited about the museum's future and expect to find an extraordinary leader as our next Executive Director.
Atkins brings more than
30 years of teaching and writing Minnesota history as well as a long history of work with the Minnesota Historical Society to her role as interim Executive Director. Her publications include Creating Minnesota, a history of Minnesota on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of statehood.
The museum's Board of Directors will immediately begin the process of identifying a new Executive Director. They expect to make the appointment in spring 2013.
