Accident with injuries

Saturday, Oct. 6, at 12:05 p.m. the Stearns County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-car crash on County Road 54 in Avon Township. Also responding was Avon and Albany Rescue, Gold Cross Ambulance and Albany Police Department. The crash occurred when a 2001 Chevy Trailblazer driven by Rachel Odenthal, age 16, of Albany, crossed over the center line of County Road 54 as she was going east.

Odenthal's car then struck a 2001 Chevy Impala which was driven by Misty Byland, age 26 of Albany as she was going west.

Byland had a 6-year-old passenger in the car with her at the time of the crash and Odenthal was alone in her car.

All parties were taken to the St. Cloud Hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance. At the time of this information, the 6-year-old passenger was listed in serious condition. Everyone involved in this incident was reported to have been wearing the proper seatbelts. This crash is still under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.

Arrests made in drive-by shooting

Saturday, Oct. 6, at about 6 a.m., Stearns County Deputies were called to a gunshot complaint near the intersection of County Road 9 and County Road 151 in Holding Township. The caller reported that he was shot at by people in a brown Suburban and was currently following the car. Dispatch remained on the phone with the caller as they followed the car around the area. Deputies intercepted the Suburban on County Road 151, near the intersection of 395th Street, and tried to stop the car but it accelerated eastbound on 390th Street. The deputies began pursuing the car but the driver refused to stop and he drove off the road through a plowed field. the car continued at high rates of speed weaving through both lanes of traffic and then drove through a posted stop sign. The car eventually stopped a couple of miles into St. Wendel Township. All four people were removed from the car. The driver, Jacob Whalen, age 20, of Long Prairie, was arrested for fleeing police in a motor vehicle, and a passenger, Keith Kern, age 20, of Swanville was arrested for three counts of second-degree assault. Both suspects were taken into custody and brought to the Stearns County Jail. The incident is under investigation and no medical attention was needed by the victims.

House fire in Manannah Township

(This story was "bumped" last week to make room for last-minute legal notices.) Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 9:59 p.m., the Meeker County Sheriff's Office received a report from a passerby of a house fire at 38031 MN Highway 22, Eden Valley, in Manannah Township. The caller indicated that the flames were through the roof at the time of the call. The Meeker County Sheriff's Office and the Eden Valley Police Department responded to the call. The Eden Valley Fire Department, Watkins Fire Department, and Litchfield Fire Department were also paged to this call. The owner, William Matteson, 49 years old, was not home at the time of the fire, and the house was a total loss. Red Cross was contacted to assist the family for a place to stay.

There was no one in the house at the time of the fire. The State Fire Marshal was contacted and this fire is currently under investigation by the Meeker County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshal's Office. The possible cause of the fire is an unattended portable heater left on at the residence while the occupants were away.

Wright County Sheriff's Office

Oct 3, Shannon Noel Miller, 29 of Annandale, was arrested in Monticello on the charge of criminal vehicular operation.

Oct. 3, Nathan Walter Buranen, 21 of Annandale, was arrested in Maple Lake on a Wright County warrant for third-degree controlled substance violation.

Oct. 3, Matthew Richard Vickerman, 20 of Clearwater, was charged with felony damage to property.

Oct. 7, James Michael Zabinski, 46 of Clearwater, was arrested in Clearwater on the charge of second-degree DWI.

There were 3 property-damage accidents, 2 personal-injury accidents, and 3 car-deer accidents.

There were 6 arrests for DWI,

9 underage-consumption arrests,

1 school-bus stop-arm violations and 25 tickets for miscellaneous traffic violations issued this week.

Sunday, October 7

3:33 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of car/deer accident on MN Highway 22, Greenleaf Township. The call was transferred to the MN State Patrol.

7:31 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance for a medical at the Brook View Apartments on Coleman Avenue East, Eden Valley. One individual was transported to St Cloud Hospital.

9:03 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance for a medical at the Hilltop Care Center on Luella Street, Watkins. One individual was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital.

Saturday, October 6

4:39 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Kimball Rescue and Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on 746th Avenue, Kingston Township. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

3:18 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical at the Hilltop Care Center, Watkins. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

3:25 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a disturbance at a property on 282nd Street, Kingston Township. The parties were advised of their options.

7:37 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an unsafe condition at a residence on 283rd Street, Forest City Township. The deputy spoke to the owner and had them extinguish the fire.

11:36 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a noise complaint at the Red Goat Bar, Central Avenue North, Watkins. The owner of the business was advised of the complaint.

Friday, October 5

6:15 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a car/deer accident on Kingston Street, North Kingston Township. Upon arrival of the deputy a deer possession tag was issued.

On the 5th at 8:03 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a request to assist the public at a residence on County State Aid Highway 24, Dassel Township. Upon arrival of the deputy the individual was advised of their options.

10:40 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of theft at a business on MN Highway 55, Manannah Township.

12:08 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Central Avenue North, Watkins. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

1:10 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a theft a residence on Meeker Stearns Street, Manannah Township.

4:37 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance and Eden Valley Rescue to a medical at the Eden Valley Area Medical Clinic, Eden Valley. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

7:25 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance for a medical at the Eden Valley football field on Church Street South in Eden Valley. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital. Eden Valley Rescue was already on the scene.

Thursday, October 4

4:50 a.m. the Sheriff's Office observed a stalled vehicle on MN Highway 24, Forest City Township. A deputy had the vehicle towed to the Meeker County impound.

9:51 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a burglary at a residence on 587th Avenue, Manannah Township.

3:41 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical alarm at a residence on Church Street, Watkins. The deputy found everyone to be okay at the residence and Watkins Ambulance was canceled.

5:50 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a civil matter at a residence on 375th Street, Forest Prairie Township. The individual was advised of their options.

Wednesday, October 3

7:00 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on 587th Avenue, Manannah Township. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

2:12 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic at a residence on County State Aid Highway 23, Acton Township. James Harlan Johnson, age 53, of Grove City, was arrested for interfering with a 9-1-1 call and domestic assault.

9:22 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a fight that occurred in the Watkins Trailer Park, Watkins. The Eden Valley Police Department assisted at the scene.

Tuesday, October 2

12:46 a.m. the Sheriff's Office issued a deer possession tag to an individual for a deer that was hit and killed near a residence on County State Aid Highway 30, Manannah Township.

2:47 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance for a medical at the Kimball High School, MN Highway 55, Kimball, in Stearns County. Stearns County later dispatched Gold Cross Ambulance for mutual aid.

2:47 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a cellular 9-1-1 call reporting a cornfield fire at a residence on 193rd Avenue, Eden Lake Township, Stearns County. The information was transferred to Stearns County Sheriff. Eden Valley Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.

2:50 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Church Street, Watkins. One individual was transported to the St Cloud Hospital.

Monday, October 1

7:51 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of graffiti at a residence on County State Aid Highway 34, Forest Prairie Township.

8:26 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a stray dog at the Koronis Regional Park on County State Aid Highway 20, Union Grove Township. One female black lab with no collar was transported to the Meeker County dog pound.

9:07 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of cows on MN Highway 55, Manannah Township. MN State Patrol located the owner and the cows were returned to their pasture.

11:53 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Fire Department in Stearns County for mutual aid for a cornfield fire on 101st Street, Watkins.

2:42 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a request for a deer possession tag for a deer that was picked up at County State Aid Highway 34/ 340th Street, Forest Prairie Township. The individual was referred to the MN DNR.

2:48 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a vulnerable adult at a residence on 365th Avenue, North Kingston Township.

4:57 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a dog complaint at a residence on County State Aid Highway 3, Manannah Township.
