Karen Markwardt of Buffalo died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011. She was 55.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at Zion Lutheran Church at 1200 Highway 25 South in Buffalo. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Lunch will follow the memorial service.
Karen (Thielen) Markwardt was raised in Brooklyn Center, and received a business degree from the U of M, Twin Cities in 1981, and an MBA from St. Cloud State University in 1988. In her early career, she worked as a Market Research Analyst for several companies, including Fingerhut and the Federal Reserve Banking System. In 1993, she left her profession to focus on family and worked part-time with an adult literacy program. In 1996, she began an in-home business with Creative Memories, and achieved several important promotions within that firm. In recent years, she worked very hard trying to find relief from health problems which beset her. Karen enjoyed raising her two wonderful sons, gardening, traveling, walking, readiing, and scrapbooking. She also completed two half-marathons and instructed yoga.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents Lois and Jerry Thielen.
She is survived by devoted husband of 28 years Keith; beloved sons Ryan and Brent; sisters Maureen (and Chuck Halvorson) Thielen, Jenny (and Gary) Axberg, and Sandi (and Keith) Maile; brother Bob Thielen; her husband's siblings Bob, Judy, Dan, Dave, and Terry; and many friends and relatives.
