A 21-year-old Eden Valley man who was trying to cross train tracks in Meeker County early Saturday morning was hit and killed by a train, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The Minnesota State Patrol says that Nicholas Phillipp, 21, of Eden Valley, was walking in Eden Valley on Saturday at about
3:30 a.m. As he tried to cross on foot to the south side of the tracks, he was struck by a westbound Canadian Pacific train. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Eden Valley Police Department, Meeker County Sheriff's Department and Stearns County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.
The driver of the train, who was not injured, is listed in the report as Joseph Pearson, 31, of Hugo. A passenger on the train, Jerome Ott, 57, of Wabasha, also wasn't hurt.
Phillip, a graduate of the EV-W class of 2010, was known for his love of hunting and ice fishing as well as clowning around. His Facebook page is filled with messages recalling his laugh, smile and ability to make others laugh.
