Eden Valley Firearms safety classes begin Aug. 13



The EV Sportsmen Club and Meeker Pheasants Forever are co-sponsoring the DNR firearms safety class in Eden Valley beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, in the Civic Center on Consairt Ave. W in Eden Valley. Students must be at least 11 or older before taking the course. The FAS Certificate becomes valid at age 12. The class is open to the first 35 students to enroll the first night.

Persons 18 or older may take the course work online, but must take the written test and perform the field test Thursday, Aug. 23, to obtain their certificate. Talk to Gary if you are interested in that option.

Registration and the first class in be at 6 p.m. Monday Aug. 13. The DNR has adopted a new Student Self-Certification process for this and other youth safety courses. A parent must sign the registration form the first night of class. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued a temporary Safety Certificate as in the past. Students must complete the certification process and pay their $7.50 fee online to validate and print out their FAS certificate. Complete instructions are on the back on the temporary FAS certificate that students will receive after successfully completing the course.

Bring something to write with each class period. Course handbooks will be provided. Classes will be held Aug. 13, 15, 16, 20, and 22, at the EV Civic Center from 6-8 p.m.

The Field session will take place at the EV Sportsmen's Club trap range near the Vails Lake public access from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Aug, 23.
