Norbert "Nups" Ertl of Watkins died Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Paynesville Hospital. He was 87.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins with Fr. John Brunner officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Parish rosary will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by parish prayers at 6 p.m. and Legion Post 453 prayers at 6:30 p.m.
Norbert "Nups" Ertl was born May 5, 1925, in Watkins to Joseph and Mary (Huberty) Ertl. He served in the Air Force from 1943-1946. He married Mary Jeanne Smith June 10, 1947, in Hartland, Wisc., and they lived in Watkins. Nups was co-owner of J.M. Ertl and Sons Hardware in Watkins where he was the appliance, furnace and television repair man. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in watkins, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Watkins Legion Post 453. Nups was an avid Clippers baseball fan.
Nups was preceded in death by his parents; wife Jeanne; sons Dennis and Donald; daughter-in-law Carol; granddaughter Michelle; great-grandson Zyler; brothers Andy, Greg, Al, Francis "Fritz," and Wilfred "Ole."
He is survived by his children Terri (and Roger) Jochim of St. Cloud, James (and Monica) Ertl of Park Rapids, Steve Ertl of Spokane, wash., Joel (and Anita Bendickson) Ertl of St. Paul, ebbie (and Scott) DeSith of Litchfield, Rick (and Kim) Ertl of Watkins; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Rita Ertl of Waite Park.
