Curt and Pam Karls of Cold Spring, coordinators of the 5th Annual Old Glory Run/Walk held in Cold Spring, once again donated the proceeds ($25,000) of that event to the DAV of MN Foundation Wednesday, July 11, at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center. This donation has been made by the Karls couple for the past five years, and their total donations to the Disabled American Veterans is now just short of $100,000. Their donations have been designated for service to veterans projects initiated by the St. Cloud VAMC and the DAV.

Over past years, the proceeds have been used to purchase new vans by the DAV and then donated to the VAMC to be used to transport area veterans in need of a ride to and from their medical appointments at the VAMC. Executive Director of the DAV of MN Foundation, Stephen Whitehead said "This free transportation makes a major impact on the quality of life for veterans and we are so fortunate to have heroes like Curt and Pam Karls in this community." Funds have also been used to provide hunting and fishing opportunities (Camp Ripley and Ely) for patients at the VA facility.

This year's donation has been designated to play a funding role in a new project in the planning stages at the VA facility in

St. Cloud. The project is a wellness/fitness walking, running trail on the campus. The funds donated will be used in the final stages of this project for benches, shelters, exercise stations, and rest/reflection stations.

DAV State Commander Bob Erickson stated at the presentation event "The purpose of the DAV is to BUILD BETTER LIVES FOR OUR COUNTRY'S DISABLED VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES, and when folks like Curt and Pam jump in and provide their talents, time and energy to make a difference in the DAV performing our purpose, we see them as heroes, and see their passion to serve veterans is clearly an inspiration to many of our members to do the same."
