The Kimball 14U fastpitch softball team hosted their third annual "Own the Zone" tournament this weekend. The tournament consisted of two age levels each competing in one-day tournaments. The 14U bracket hosted nine teams Saturday, July 7, and the 12U bracket had 10 teams Sunday, July 8.
The Kimball 14U fastpitch team competed against Willmar #1 for their first game of the day and won the opener by a score of 5-2. The next game, we found ourselves against Minnewaska and won the game 16-2. Moving to the semi-final game, Kimball took on Willmar #2 and won to advance to the championship by a score of 5-0. After having a few games off, undefeated Kimball met up with Brownton to compete for the championship. Kimball had trouble stringing hits together and lost the game 1-6. After a long day, Kimball moved to again compete against Brownton for the second championship game under the lights. Kimball came out and scored the first run of the game in the first inning but again found themselves stalled after that and lost the game 1-4 taking home the second place medals.
The members of this team are: Bailey Berscheid, Anna Donnay, Becky Holtz, Shay Krippner, Tashi Kunkel, Ariel Laabs, Lauren Libbesmeier, Madi Libbesmeier, Katelynn Loehrer, Hedy Robben, Amanda Roerick, Alexa Ruehle, Montana Tschida, and Emily Utecht. The overall tournament was a great success with a lot of softball being played and beautiful weather. This opportunity provides the players to experience a tournament environment, learning the game of softball, and spending time with their teammates. We would like to thank the teams and players that participated in the tournament. Also, we would like to show gratitude and recognize the local businesses that supported us and contributed to the tournament: A.M. Maus and Son, B and N Signs, Gohmann's Foods, Images By Marguerite, Knaus Sausage House, and Son of a Butcher.
