By Mark Anthony,
Temperatures started off Monday morning a bit on the cool side across northern Minnesota. Many locations in northern Minnesota fell into the 40s for morning lows. Silver Bay was the cold spot with a morning low of 46 degrees. That was just seven degrees shy of the record low of 39 degrees set back in 1996.
We did warm things up by Monday afternoon, however, as highs quickly rose into the low to mid 80s. Average highs this time of the year are now in the low-to-mid 80s across most of Minnesota.
Some spotty showers fell across the area Friday. They were very "hit and miss" across the state. My lawn is getting very stressed, as I know it is for most of your lawns. We have tried our best to water, but with temperatures in the 90s and even lower 100s for much of last week, it has been hard to keep up with the watering.
A bit cooler weather for the start of the week certainly helped out, but we will be back into the upper 80s and lower 90s for Wednesday and Thursday, before some relief in the form of rain and cooler temperatures will arrive. The heat should return once again by the weekend with a chance of showers and thunderstorms that will accompany the warmer temps.
If you are keeping track at home, the month of June was nearly four degrees warmer than average. In addition, we were nearly two inches short of our "normal" June as far as rainfall. (No surprise there). July so far has been over nine degrees warmer than average.
Some are already telling me they are ready for fall and winter with this kind of heat! I'm not quite there, but if this keeps up, I might be joining that camp!
Have a great upcoming weekend!
Weather history: This week in weather history in 1976 it was hot all over Minnesota. Most locations hit the upper 90s and lower 100s!
Weather fact:Warm weather brings low-pressure systems, of course. Warm air expands so there are fewer air molecules in the atmosphere. Low-pressure systems usually brings cloudy conditions and chances for rain or snow showers.
