Fair Haven Old Settlers Day June 30

This year's Fair Haven Old Settlers Day started at 8:30 a.m. with a breakfast for visiting royalty where our royalty and candidates welcomed and introduced themselves. A well-attended parade started at 10 a.m. There were more than 100 units this year.

Following the parade were many activities in the park. Looking around, there were many families enjoying the day. The Car, Tractor, and Motorcycle Show had 29 entries. President Brenda Newman welcomed everyone to the 86th annual picnic, sharing that the first Old Settlers Picnic was held in 1923, with 700 people in attendance. To begin the program, 2011 Miss Congeniality Maria Donnay did a beautiful job singing the national anthem. Then awards were given to the longest-married couple, Art and Ruby Geisinger, married 70 years. Most recently-married couple was Joshua and Judi Rodenburg, married 7 years. Oldest man in the crowd was Art Geisinger 90 years from Annandale. Oldest woman was Eunice Schempf, 91 from Elk River. Youngest child was Calvin Knaus at 5 weeks old. The person who traveled the farthest to attend was Phillip Schempf from Juneau, Alaska.

The queen candidates and royalty auctioned off their goodie baskets, and the proceeds of $177 will be donated to the local Fire and Rescue; as a group, they chose where the profits would go. Then a small crowd enjoyed music and songs from Charlie Roth.

The coronation began with emcee Dennis Abernathy welcoming everyone, introducing the royalty and their parents, then the candidates were brought to the stage. Visiting royalty in the sparkle section were from Lester Prairie, Buffalo, and Little Miss Kimball. It was a very emotional time for outgoing Queen Allie Seth, Princess Tara Matthiesen, and Miss Congeniality Maria Donnay as they gave their farewell speeches. They shared the great times and friends made at many of the other town events, and thanked all those who helped throughout their reign.

The crowning began with Maria handing over her crown to Kenzie Traurig, Fair Haven's new Miss Congeniality; Tara placed her crown on Gracie Lantto, Fair Haven's new Princess and, finally, Allie placed her crown on Jenna Maus, Fair Haven's new Queen.

Thanks for joining our day!
