Frank Horwath of Litchfield died Thursday, May 3, 2012, at the St. Cloud VAMC. He was 93.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at St. Matthew's United Church of Christ in Forest City, with Pastor Jeanne Bringgold-Pro officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Forest City Cemetery.
Frank H. Horwath was born Oct. 29, 1918, at Dassel to Christ and Julia (Andert) Horwath. He served in the United States Army during WW II. Frank was united in marriage to Carolyn Rohrbeck in 1945 at St. Matthew's United Church of Christ in Forest City. They lived in California for eight years where Frank was employed as a riveter, and worked on the St. Raphael Bridge over Oakland Bay. They then moved to the Litchfield area where Frank was self-employed as an auto mechanic for many years. Frank was a member of the Litchfield VFW, and the Litchfield American Legion. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, building birdhouses, and he especially enjoyed trips to the casino.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Carolyn; brothers and sisters Rosie Schraeder, Betty Vernig, Christ Horwath, Lawrence Horwath, Katherine Rohrbeck, and Annie Farrian.
He is survived by his children and their spouses Carole Lou (and Robert) Becker of Watkins, Gary (and Joan) Horwath of Litchfield, Wesley (and Sherry) Horwath of Litchfield; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; sister Suzanne Furlong of St. Paul, Emaline Schmidt of Litchfield; Luella Taylor of St. Bay Louis, Miss, and Marie Blomker of Litchfield.
