EV-W School Wellness 5K Run-Walk

Eden Valley-Watkins is participating in the Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP). The SHIP initiative was established to help Minnesotans live longer, healthier, and better lives by preventing risk factors which lead to disease. At the local level, a committee of staff and community members throughout the past several months have been working to create an environment which promotes healthy lifestyle habits for both faculty and students. Areas of focus have been nutrition, lunch choices, wellness activities, healthy fundraising, and insurance benefits for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

In conjunction with the SHIP program, students in grades 6-12 and staff will be participating in the second annual 5K Run and Walk around Vails (Mud) Lake from 1-3:12 p.m. Wednesday, May 16. The route will start at the Eden Valley Elementary School on Stearns Ave. E, and go East to Co. Rd. 9, then North on Co. Rd. 9 until Vails Lake Rd. It will continue West on Vails Lake Rd. to the intersection of Highway 22, then South on Highway 22, ending at the Assumption Church parking lot. The Meeker and

Stearns County Sheriff's Departments, in coordination with the Eden Valley Police Department will provide assistance and supervision as individuals go around the lake. This event will serve as an opportunity for everyone to exercise together and make a public statement on the importance of living a healthy life.
