Eldred May of Watkins died Friday, March 30, 2012, at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was 79.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in St. Nicholas. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 2, at Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins with parish prayers at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Eldred Charles May was born May 19, 1932, near Watkins to Mathew and Kathrine (Beckius) May. After school he began farming, and he farmed in Luxemburg Township his entire life. Eldred was a member of the St. Nicholas Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He served as Township Supervisor for Luxemburg Township for 38 years. He enjoyed riding through the countryside on his four-wheeler to check things over, or to catch a neighbor for a good conversation. He was very friendly and will be remembered as a loving husband and father. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed spending time with them, especially his granddaughter. Eldred enjoyed everything about farming, from spending hours in his Bobcat working to tinkering and fixing machinery. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing.
Eldred was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lorraine and Lucille, and brothers Roman, Ervin and Donald.
He is survived by his wife Leona of Watkins; sons Timothy (and Tanya) May of Watkins, Kevin (and Kim) May of Rockville, and Robert May (and fiancee Cindy Holthaus) of Rockville; and granddaughter Kendra May; brother Marvin May of Watkins; and sister-in-law Dorothy May of Brooklyn Park.
