During the Kimball business expo Saturday, Dave Heimkes (left) of Monsanto presented a check for $2,500 for the Kimball Area Food Shelf. Accepting the check is the food shelf director Mary Mathies (right). Each year, Monsanto sponsors a program in hundreds of counties in the United States where one farmer in each county is selected to nominate a worthy charity in his or her county. Keith Donnay (center) was the designated Stearns County farmer, and he chose the food shelf to receive the check.
March is designated as Food Shelf Month, but donations of both food and money are always welcome. The Kimball Area Food Shelf serves families and individuals in Kimball and surrounding communities all year long, and the need is greater now than ever. Cash donations can be especially helpful, as Mathies and other directors can make purchases for pennies on the dollar from regional food banks. Staff photo by Jean Doran Matua.
