Junior Olympic Volleyball

By Whitney Gettler,

JO volleyball club director

The Kimball Komets hosted the second annual Junior Olympic Volleyball Tournament Sunday Feb. 26. Kimball has both a

16's team and an 18's team that competed in the tournament. Both saw great success on the day. The 18's team, consisting of Holly Erickson, Liz Kastanek, Hollie Donnay, Breane Meierhofer, Raelynn Callander, Lexi Rose, and Stacy Hurrle, took first out of eight teams in their age division. After defeating Minnewaska in the first round of tournament play in three games, the Komets took the tournament in a battle against Big Lake.

The 16's team, consisting of Cassie Erickson, Tashi Kunkel, Hannah Serbus, Anna Donnay, Becky Holtz, Ariel Laabs, and Emily Donnay, took third out of six teams in their age division. The team has continued to show improvement since the beginning of the season. They work well as a team and, although they are young, are proving to be tough competition for any team. They placed first in their pool which gave them a first round bye in their tournament play. They lost their first round in the tournament which put them in the third place bracket. The Komets took third place in a win over Howard Lake Waverly Winsted 16's.

Thanks to all of the parents and volunteers who helped make the tournament run smoothly. A special thanks goes out to Tabitha Mortenson for all of her hard work.
