Bertha Quast of Watkins died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at the Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. She was 95.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 8, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins with Rev. John Brunner officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery.
Bertha Quast was born April 22, 1916, in Forest City to Charles and Lillian (Rohrbeck) Ackerman. She married Alex Quast April 7, 1931, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Forest City. Bertha was employed at Jenny-O Foods in Litchfield for 22 years. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was active with the Council of Catholic Women and the mission sewing group. She was also a member of the Watkins Senior Citizens. Her hobbies included cooking, crocheting and embroidering.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; Husband Alex in 1999; son-in-law Fred Dockendorf; sisters Rose Krueger, Etta Norgren, Lorraine Salberg, Dorothy Botz; brothers Peter, Donald, and Clifford Ackerman.
She is survived by her children Kathleen (and Jerry) Nohner of Watkins, Norbert (and Marge) Quast of South St. Paul, Delores Dockendorf of Watkins, Betty (and Bob) Hennen of Maplewood, Mary (and Ken) Heinen of St. Joseph; 26 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers are John Nohner, Joe Dockendorf, Dan Hennen, John Heinen, Tom Quast, and Steve Hennen. Music is by Mary Streit and the church choir. Arrangements are with the Ertl Funeral Home of Watkins.
