22-year-old dies after medical emergency in Stearns Co. Jail

Correctional officers at the Stearns County Jail responded to a medical emergency at 8:36 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24. The St. Cloud Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance service also responded to the call that went to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office. a 22-year old man was treated on the scene and taken by ambulance to the St. Cloud Hospital. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The young man's name is Jerome Harrell of St. Cloud. The incident remains under investigation and no further information was available at press time.

Wright County Sheriff's Office

Feb. 21, Ryan Joseph Boon, 35, of South Haven, was arrested in Buffalo on a Wright County warrant for fifth-degree controlled substance violation.

Feb. 21, Jeremy Alan Berg, 25, of Annandale, was arrested in Sherburne County on a Wright County warrant for flee police in a motor vehicle.

Feb, 22, Joseph Harrison Baynes, 23, of Annandale, was arrested in Buffalo on a Wright County warrant for issuance of worthless check.

Feb. 25, Richard Edward Barnes, 49, of Annandale, was arrested in Southside Township on an apprehension and detention order from Wright County.

There were 14 property-damage accidents, 1 personal-injury accident, 2 hit-and-run accidents, and no car-deer accidents.

There were 6 arrests for DWI,

8 underage-consumption arrests, and 109 tickets for miscellaneous traffic violations issued this week.

Stearns County Convictions

Marvin Andrew Schmitz, 28, of Eden Valley, was sentenced in January for a July 2011 violation of harassment restraining order. He must spend 60 days in jail, pay a $50 fine plus surcharges, complete a chemical dependency evaluation and follow recommendations, abstain from alcohol and non-prescribed mood-altering substances, submit to random urinalysis testing, provide a DNA sample, remain law-abiding, have no contact with the victim, commit no same or similar violations during his five years probation, and successfully complete Domestic Violence Court.

Michael Wayne Engelstad, 28, of Eden Valley, was sentenced in January for a Sept. 2011 violation of a domestic abuse no-contact order. He will serve 14 months (of a 21-month sentence) in prison and seven months on supervised release, pay a $50 fine plus surcharges, and provide a DNA sample.

Monday, Feb. 27

12:26 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of suspicious activity at a residence on 340th Street, Watkins. Deputies checked the area and found that the vehicle had left prior to arrival.

Sunday, Feb. 26

11:26 a.m. the Sheriff's Office assisted the public at a residence on Stearns Avenue West, Eden Valley.

6:39 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a car/deer accident in the area of 355th Street and 675th Avenue, Watkins. The deputy noted minor vehicle damage and issued the driver a deer possession tag.

8:05 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance for a medical at a business on 93rd Ave., Kimball, per the request of Stearns

County Sheriff Office. One individual was transported to St. Cloud Hospital.

Saturday, Feb. 25

9:48 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of 349th Street, Eden Valley. A deputy searched the area and was not able to locate the vehicle.

7:20 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of a car/deer accident on MN Highway 24, Watkins. The information was forwarded on to the MN State Patrol.

7:59 p.m. Sheriff's Office received a report of a dead deer in the roadway on MN Highway 15, Kimball. The information was forwarded on to the MN State Patrol.

11:10 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to assist the Stearns County Sheriff's Office with checking for an individual and vehicle at a residence near 160th Street and MN Highway 22, Eden Valley. The deputy checked and found that the vehicle and the owner were not at home.

Friday, Feb. 24

8:42 a.m. the Sheriff's Office assisted Hilltop Care Center, Watkins, by helping make arrangements for a party to be transported to Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis. A report was taken.

12:04 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to assist at a residence on Luella Street, Watkins. The deputy was canceled a short time later.

1:20 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a driving complaint in the area of MN Hwy 22 and 380th Street, Eden Valley. The information was transferred to the MN State Patrol.

2:26 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a dog complaint on North 4th Street, Watkins. The deputy found everything to be okay with the animal.

Thursday, Feb. 23

3:43 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a dog complaint on North Shire Road, Watkins. The owner of the dog was given a warning for an ordinance violation.

9:09 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a driving complaint on MN Hwy 15 and 353rd Street, Kimball. The deputy checked the area and the vehicle was no longer in the area.

10:07 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of an assault at a residence on Luella Street, Watkins.

10:13 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an alarm at a residence on MN Highway 55, Watkins. Prior to the arrival the deputy was cancelled, false alarm.

Wednesday, Feb. 22

8:05 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of suspicious activity at a residence on 574th Avenue, Manannah. The deputy found nothing suspicious in the area.

10:21 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Magnus Johnson Street, Kimball, in Stearns County. One individual was transported to the Buffalo Hospital.

12:43 p.m. the Sheriff's Office assisted the public at a residence on 4th Street North, Watkins.

Tuesday, Feb. 21

1:14 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on County State Aid Highway 36, Eden Valley. Watkins Ambulance was canceled a short time later as one individual was going to be transported by private vehicle.

3:02 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to an animal complaint at a residence in the Watkins Trailer Park, Watkins. Upon arrival of the deputy the park manager was contacted and advised of the complaint

5:12 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of suspicious activity at a residence on MN Highway 15, Kimball.

6:47 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Fire to a carbon monoxide alarm at a residence on 207th Avenue, Eden Valley. The fire department determined that wood smoke possibly set off the alarm.

7:07 p.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Brooks Street South, Eden Valley. One individual was transported to the Paynesville Hospital.

9:36 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a cellular 9-1-1 call from a residence on 320th Street, Kimball. A deputy responded and found all to be okay.

11:44 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Watkins Ambulance to an unresponsive individual on 1st Street, Watkins. The Meeker County coroner was called to the scene and a report will be filed.

Monday, Feb. 20

11:59 a.m. the Sheriff's Office assisted the Stearns County Sheriff's Office with a 911 hang up call at a residence on 340th Street, Watkins.

8:04 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a verbal domestic occurring at a residence on 4th St. N., Watkins. A deputy

assisted with mediating the situation for the evening.
