Kimball Play and Learn School is on a roll

We have entered mid-year with knowledge of 14 uppercase and lowercase letters, the sounds they make and how to write them. We have been working on our rhyming words, beginning sounds, syllables and other important pre-reading skills. Recently we talked about mittens. We read the story The Mitten by Jan Brett, made our own guided reading books, acted out the story using masks and a giant mitten, and painted a large mitten on the easel. This week we will be talking about Dental Health. We will have two very special visitors; Kari Peterson D.D.S from Granite City Family & Cosmetic Dentistry and Tracey Voigt, an assistant, from Persona Dental. They will be showing the students how to properly brush their teeth/how long, talk to them about flossing, good/bad foods for your teeth, and much more. Students will practice flossing using large pieces of yarn and an egg carton. They will also practice brushing the "sugar bugs" off of some hard boiled eggs soaked in dark cola.

Coming up, we will be talking about our pets and celebrating Dr. Suess' birthday. We are also looking forward to a spring field trip and a parent day focusing on Kindergarten Readiness.

We have had a very successful year so far, and can't believe the year is half over!
