Cubs record win to snap losing streak

Cubs v Milaca Wolves, 67-58

The Kimball Cubs traveled to Milaca last Monday night, Feb. 6, to take on the Wolves. Kimball jumped out to an early lead by shooting the ball well and attacking the basket. The Cubs led 17-13 with 10:20 left in the half. Kimball continued to build on the lead and went into the half with a 15-point lead, 44-29.

In the beginning of the second half, Milaca went on a

9-2 run to cut the lead to eight points with 14:39 to play. The Wolves slowly kept cutting into the deficit and, with four and a half minutes to play, they trailed by one at 55-54. Over the next three minutes the Cubs answered with a 9-3 run to put the game away. Kimball snapped their seven-game losing streak with a 67-58 victory.

Leading scorer for the Cubs was Cameron Hunt with 22 points. Jarred Merchant and Austin Roerick also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively. Hunt also contributed six assists and three steals. Jarred Merchant led the rebounding effort with eight boards.

Cubs top Eagles in overtime, again, 66-63

The Cubs took on the Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles last Thursday evening, Feb. 9, in Eden Valley. Kimball started off well and built an early lead which they maintained through much of the first half. With the score 24-18, the Eagles went on a 15-2 run to end the half and take a seven-point lead at the break.

The lead was eight, 38-30, when the Cubs mounted their comeback. Consecutive three-point baskets by Austin Ruehle cut the Eagle's lead to two points with about 12 minutes to play. Two steals and lay-ups by Cameron Hunt allowed the Cubs to regain the lead at 42-41. The Cubs were ahead by three (55-52) with

4.2 seconds remaining. The Eagles stole the ball after the inbounds and made a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.

In the extra session Eden Valley-Watkins scored the first two baskets to take a five-point lead. Austin Ruehle, again, answered with back to back threes to help the Cubs regain the lead. Kimball held on to close out a 66-63 victory. This was the third meeting in the last four games between the teams that has been decided in overtime.

Austin Ruehle poured in a career-high 30 points on the night, 21 of them in the second half and overtime. Cameron Hunt added

19 points, seven assists, three steals and seven rebounds for the Cubs. Austin Roerick chipped in with eight points and six rebounds. The Cubs record climbed to

6-12 on the season and 2-7 in conference play. They travel to B-B-E to take on the number one rated Jaguars on Friday night.
