The Cubs locked up the CMC championship on Friday night, Feb. 10, with a 58-15 win over the Rockets of Rockford. On Parents night, and the last regular season dual, the Cubs had a great crowd to perform in front of. The Cubs started off by winning four of the first seven weight classes, Mitchell Mckee (106) started things off with a pin in 1:38. Quinten Berres (126) received a forfeit, Marcus Hamer (132) wrestled to a 18-2 Tech Fall, and Marcus Mehr (138) wrestled a well-fought 5-2 win. The Cubs would go on to win the last seven weight classes started off with Quentin Bryce (152) picking up a 17-2 tech fall. Freshman Jordan Joseph (160) won his 100th career match against Danny Lynch by an injury default, Jordan was up 5-3 at the time of the default. Travis Schiefelbein (170) wrestled a very well-controlled match against seventh-ranked in class AA John Redepenning. Travis and John have battled back and forth through the years, but Wolf was better on this day winning a 10-8 decision. Travis Wills (182) and Alex Thurber (hwt) both received fofeits, and Austin Schiefelbein (195) and Austyn Schlueter both combined for pins in less than 2:20.
This win put the Cubs season record at 29-0 heading into the section 5A tournament. The Cubs faced the winner of Minnewaska and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle to advance to Friday's Final Four in Minnewaska. Wrestling will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday for the Semi-Finals and 7:30 p.m. for the Finals.
