Cubs fall to #1 Jaguars

The Kimball Cubs hosted the number-one-rated Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars last Tuesday night, Jan. 17, at the Leo Wirth Gymnasium. The Jaguars lived up to their ranking from the start. B-B-E jumped out to an early 14-0 lead. The Cubs then played the Jaguars even for a stretch, trailing 20-6 with 10:13 left in the half. B-B-E led at the midway point by a score of 42-21.

Kimball played better in the second half on the offensive end of the floor. The Cubs were more aggressive, attacking the basket as they made 16 trips to the free-throw line, making 12 of those attempts. Kimball scored 35 points in the second half, and the Jaguars scored 34 for the final margin of 76-56.

Ed Nielsen led the Cub rebounders with six. Cameron Hunt finished with a game high

20 points and three steals. The Cubs have a record of four wins and seven losses on the season.

Pioneers defeat Cubs

The Cubs took on the other undefeated team in the conference last Friday night, Jan. 20, the Pioneers from Pierz. Pierz jumped out to an early lead at 11-4. The Cubs played even with the Pioneers for the next 10 minutes and trailed 28-20 with three minutes to play in the half. A Pierz run to end the first half saw them leading by a score of 34-22.

In the second period, the Cubs struggled shooting the basketball. Kimball shot 6/26 (23 percent) from the field in the half and scored just 16 points. Pierz went on to defeat the Cubs by a 62-38 score.

Cameron Hunt was the leading rebounder for the Cubs with five. He also dished out four assists. Preston Peglow led the team in scoring with nine points. The Cubs fell to 4-8 on the season and 1-4 in the Central Minnesota Conference.
