The Kimball JV boys' basketball team won two of three games last week. Tuesday night, Dec. 13, they defeated Royalton 33-26 for their second road victory of the season. Sophomore Ben Serbus led all scorers with eight points. Conner Wittenberg and Ed Nielsen added six points apiece in the victory. In the first round of the Kimball Christmas Tournament Thursday evening, the Cubs defeated Brandon-Evansville 45-30. The Cubs defense and hustle stymied the Chargers during the entire game. Junior Brad Mies and Ed Nielsen combined for six blocked shots in the game. Junior Dallas Newman also contributed with solid perimeter defense for the Cubs. Wittenberg finished with 11 points, and Serbus added 10. Saturday afternoon, Dec. 17, the Cubs took their first loss of the season as they came up short against Melrose, 40-34. The Cubs went into halftime leading 22-18, but couldn't quite hold on, as the Dutchmen rallied in the second half. Wittenberg led the Cubs with 10 points, while Serbus and junior Austin Roerick chipped in six points apiece. Freshmen point guard Joey Von(nacho)Wahlde also played well for the Cubs. He finished with five points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. The Cubs will take their 4-1 record into Tuesday night's home game, Dec. 20, against the Central Raiders (Norwood-Young America) at 6 p.m.
