Institute for Low Back and Neck Care
Back pain is one of the most common medical problems in the U.S., with approximately 80 percent of people experiencing it at some point in their life. Buffalo Hospital is continuing to bring expanded specialty care close to home, including adding a back pain specialist to their list of providers.
Mid December 2011, Buffalo Hospital will be welcoming Dr. Erik J. Ekstrom, M.D., Institute for Low Back and Neck Care (ILBNC). Dr. Ekstrom joined ILBNC in 2004 after working at the Sister Kenny Institute as a spine and sports medicine specialist. After completing medical school, Dr. Ekstrom completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Minnesota. Ekstrom also received additional training in sports medicine at Mayo Clinic and spasticity training at the University of Wisconsin.
"I believe in listening to patients and making them feel comfortable. For me, the most gratifying part of the work is finding the problem and fixing it so patients can return to their usual activities," says Erik Ekstrom, M.D.
"Adding a spine care specialist to Buffalo Hospital's offerings will provide a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to treatment for those suffering with back pain," says Dale Lawrence, DO, Buffalo Hospital.
Dr. Ekstrom's services will include: lumbar epidural injections, lumbar nerve root injections, lumbar, facet joint injections, bursa, pars and hip injections, hardware injections and sacroiliac joint injections. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call (800) 669-2513.
