Phyllis Oberg Gettle, 83

Phyllis Oberg Gettle of Bloomington, formerly of Kimball, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at the Minnesota Masonic Home in Bloomington after a long battle with Alzheimer disease. She was 83.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the Kimball United Methodist Church with Rev. Luke Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Kimball, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. A prayer service will be held at 5 pm. Monday at the funeral home.

Phyllis Ilean Albert was born May 17, 1928, in Summerdale, Penn., to Arthur and Dorothy (Messimer) Albert. She was united in marriage July 15, 1945, to Alfred A. Oberg in Shirmantown, Penn.; he preceded her in death Jan. 18, 1978. She married Wilfred S. Gettle in Kimball Jan. 5, 1991.

Phyllis lived in the Summerdale, Penn., area until 1945 when she moved to Kimball with her husband Al. Together they built, owned and operated the Kimball Ballroom. Phyllis went on to own and manage Oberg's Clothing Store in Kimball, to cook and manage the Kimball Golf Club, and to bartend and manage the Kimball Liquor Store. She was a member of the Kimball United Methodist Church where she was active for many years. She also was a member of the Kimball Eastern Star. Phyllis loved music, and playing the piano and organ were her therapy in life. She enjoyed making crafts, sewing, knitting, golfing, dancing, cooking and baking.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Al Oberg, son John Oberg, great-grandson Adam Otto, and sisters Betty Nelson and Gloria Kohr.

She is survived by her daughter Patti Kluge of Lakeville; daughter-in-law Karen Oberg of Annandale; sister and brother Doris Potteiger of Carlisle, Penn., and Arthur (and Minnie) Albert of Hemet, Calif.; five grandchildren: Twila, Larry, Sean, Brian and Kimberly; and 15 great-grandchildren: Matt, Erika, Mitch, Tim Griffin, Gavin, Justin, Josh, Megan, Johnny, Matthew, Emma, Lucy, Molly and Jake.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Ecklund, Erika Ecklund, Justin Oberg, Mitchell Valli, Timothy Harkness, and Josh Oberg. Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care in Kimball.
