Tuesday, Dec. 13, at about 5 a.m., Stearns County Sheriff's Office received a report of a single-car crash at CR 142, 1.5 miles NE of 207th Street in St. Augusta. The caller and another passer-by were attempting first aid on the driver of the vehicle. St. Augusta Fire/Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance were dispatched with the Stearns County Deputies.
Deputies found a 2004 Ford Ranger pickup in the north ditch. Rescue workers tried to revive the unresponsive driver, but were unable to do so and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
It appeared that the pickup truck was travelling northeast on CR 142 when the driver lost control and entered the north ditch and collided with a tree.
The driver was later identified as Joseph Salzbrun, 52, of Kimball. He was not wearing a seat belt, and the airbags did deploy. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
