Robert Morford, 87

Robert Morford of Sauk Rapids died Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at his home at Ridgeview Place, Sauk Rapids. He was 87.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at Salem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud with Pastor Wayne Anderson officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 7, at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at 2 p.m. at the Minnesota State Veterans' Cemetery near Little Falls.

Robert Murl Morford was born March 7, 1924, in Dearlock, Ontario, Canada, to Robert and Bernice (Bottenfield) Morford. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. Bob was a POW and was awarded the Purple Heart. July 16, 1946, he was united in marriage to Pandora Lang in Baker, Mont. Over the years, Bob worked for Anderson Hardware, Pflepson Appliance, Len's Furniture, FMC, and the St. Cloud Hospital, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Kimball American Legion Post 261, St. Cloud VFW Post 4847, and the Central Minnesota American Ex-POWs. Bob enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling across the states, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with his family. Bob defined integrity in the way he lived his life. He led by example in his commitment to work, family, friendships and his support of fellow veterans.

Bob was preceded in death by Pandora (Pam) his sweetheart of 64 years; brother and sister-in-law Chester and Lena Morford, sisters and brothers-in-law Lois and Lloyd Salter, Fern and Joe Stevens, Herschel Dalby and Alva Jones; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Alex and Taylor.

He is survived by his children and their spouses Raymond and Bonnie of St. Cloud, Allen and Jeanne of Eden Prairie, Jerry and Laurie of Sedalia, Mo., Glen and Vikki of St. Cloud, Marlene and Art Dingmann of Annandale, Betty and Brad Moulton of St. Joseph; Janice and Kevin Gans of Sauk Rapids, and Richard and Trisha of St. Cloud; sisters Leota Jones of Levenworth, Kan., Louise and John Hay of Cleburne, Texas, Lorraine and Boyd Parker of Seguin, Texas, and Viola and Howard Green of Chatsworth, Ga.; 18 grandchildren Joel, Julie, Jerry, Scott, Jamie, Tina, Cris, Jameson, Phillip, Steven, Kimberly, Brian, Kevin, Brad, Stacy, Brett, Jerad, and Ashley; 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Joel, Scott, Jamie, Phillip and Jerad Morford, Steven Dingmann, Brett Gans, and Brad Mies. Kim Morford and Cris Green will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care. Memorials may be made in Robert's name to the Central Minnesota American Ex-POWs.
