Home-made bomb mailbox damage; reward offered
Thursday, June 16, at about 2 p.m.,the Meeker County Sheriff's Office took a report of mailbox damage on 273rd Street, north of Dassel. Upon investigation, it was discovered that there was a small homemade explosive device made out of a plastic bottle and commonly referred to as a MacGyver bomb, bottle bomb, the works, or pressure bomb. This type of homemade bomb consists of various chemicals placed inside an enclosed container. The chemicals react with each other, releasing gases and expand to the point of rupturing the enclosed container. There is always the danger to homeowners that the container may fail to rupture, but remain under pressure and explode at any time. It is believed to have exploded sometime overnight, blowing the mailbox cover off.
