Fishing for Friendship Scholarship Tournament June 24-25

Camp hosts Second Annual "Fishing for Friendship" Scholarship Tournament

People with developmental and/or physical disabilities are invited to enjoy the an exciting day of fishing with family and friends at Camp Friendship on beautiful Clearwater Lake, as Friendship Ventures hosts the Second Annual Fishing for Friendship Scholarship Tournament June 24-25. The event, sponsored by Fishers of Men Minnesota Legacy and St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, introduces the sport of fishing to people who have not had opportunities to fish.

Participation in this tournament is exclusive to people with developmental or physical disabilities and their families or friends. Registration is free for the fisher and their group, and includes a dinner and program on the eve of the tournament, at 4 p.m. Friday, June 24. The tournament will start with a boat check from 5-6:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25; fishing begins at 8 a.m.

Event sponsorships are available at $100 and $300 levels. Funds raised will be allocated for scholarships allowing children, teens and adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities to participate in Friendship Ventures camp and respite care programs. Fishing registration forms and sponsorship information is at Registration and sponsorship forms are due by June 21.

Friendship Ventures, a privately funded nonprofit organization, offers therapeutic and recreation services to nearly 3,000 children, teenagers and adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities. Programs, including summer and winter camp and weekend respite care, are offered at Camp Friendship near Annandale, Eden Wood Center in Eden Prairie and Camp New Hope near McGregor. Participants, from 84 of Minnesota's 87 counties, have autism, cerebral palsy, attention deficit disorders (ADD/ADHD), Down syndrome, sight or hearing impairment, physical disabilities or a combination of mental and physical disabilities.
