Head volleyball coach Joe Sussenguth has announced that Kimbal Area High School middle/outside hitter Shannon Donnay has committed to play volleyball at Ridgewater College this fall.
Donnay, an outside/middle hitter for Kimball Area High School, finished her senior year with a 10-14 record. Shannon graduated from the program at the top of Kimball varsity record books for both blocks and kills. She was a three-sport varsity athlete at Kimball and a member of the varsity volleyball team since 2008.
"Shannon is a player with tremendous ability to play at any offensive position in the front row. Her ability and length will enhance our defensive play at the net and provide multiple options at the net offensively. She's a committed student-athlete and has a great personality that will fit our program very well."
Shannon will join former Kimball teammate and current Ridgewater setter Molly Hurrle who was named an NJCAA All-American in 2010.
The Ridgewater Volleyball Class of 2011 includes Kelsey Stommes (MH, ROCORI HS), Allison Hortop (Faribault OH/RS, Faribault HS), Taylor Elzenga (OH/MH, Westbrook-Walnut Grove HS), Emma Sharpe (Libero, Renville County West HS), Brittany Nissen (OH,RS, BOLD HS), Paige Pistulka (MH, Wabasso HS), Kelci Viesselman (OH, Hutchinson HS), Shannon Donnay (MH/RS, Kimball HS).
Ridgewater College was the 2010 NJCAA Division III National Champion and finished with a 33-4 season record. They captured the Region 13A Championship, MCAC State Championship and MCAC Southern Division Championship. They will open the 2011 season hosting the Ridgewater Classic Friday, Aug. 26, against North Dakota State College of Science.
