Pioneer women were an important part of the development of the territory of Minnesota and the state. The women of that time worked alongside of their men while performing the duties of the house as well. Sewing, cooking, cleaning, gardening, child-rearing. Life was not easy for the women of the prairie. Through various displays, see how the pioneer women lived, from basic house keeping to the jobs they did, the display will be all day.

The Harkin Store is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays with programs on Sunday afternoons usually from

1 to 4 p.m. There is an admission charge which includes the program and a tour of the store.

The gift shop is open the same hours as the store. It has a large variety of items from handcrafted to unique items, books, toys and old-fashioned 10-cent candy.

The store is located on Nicollet County Road 21 or the bottom road, nine miles northwest of New Ulm. The store is operated by Nicollet County Historical Society, for more information and scheduling of large tour groups, contact them at (507) 934-2160, or on weekends at Harkin at (507) 354-8666.
