St. Cloud SA breaks ground for new chapel

The St. Cloud Salvation Army broke ground at noon Monday, May 16, for the construction of the new chapel that will increase its local outreach. The new chapel is anticipated to open the end of August of this year. This new addition is completely funded by a St. Cloud donor who wanted everyone in the community Ð even the homeless to have a place to worship. "Spiritual outreach is the bedrock of The Salvation Army service," said Bill Kimball, advisory board chairman. "This chapel will not only be a welcome place of worship for anyone in the community, it is also designed to welcome those whom The Salvation Army serves at its shelter. Part of worship is creating a family atmosphere and so often those in crisis tend to isolate themselves. This is truly a place of healing."

The Northern Divisional Commanders, Lt. Colonels Daniel and Rebecca Sjogren will be present for the ceremony. Coffee and cookies will be served after the dedication.

Since 1898, The Salvation Army has been providing social and spiritual services to the St. Cloud area and surrounding communities with a mission to give people purpose, hearts hope and souls redemption. In the last eight months, The Salvation Army staff has provided emergency assistance to 3,781 families and individuals. The volunteer kitchen staff served 20,808 meals during this time.
