Andrew Kieke of the Kimball FFA has been selected as the Region V Star in AgriScience and one of four state star finalists. Andrew's supervised agriculture experience involved operating a test plot where for the past three years he has done varietals trials on up to 23 different corn varieties. Andrew works with seed representatives that include Pioneer, Dekalb, Garst, and Gold Country. He has a soybean plot with 13 varieties from Asgrow and NK.
Field scouting and soil fertility are key to making the plot a success. Maintaining a fair and accurate field plot make Andrew a reliable source for both farmers and seed companies to evaluate their leading varieties.
Andrew is the son of Kevin and Julie Kieke. He is a senior at Kimball Area High School, and plans to attend South Dakota State University where he will major in agricultural engineering, with an emphasis in global positioning systems. Kieke currently serves as chapter president and will receive his State FFA Degree at the State Convention in May.
