The Kimball boys' basketball program recently held their end-season banquet at Kimball Area High School. A potluck meal was served for the players, their parents and the coaching staff. A video presentation was shown that highlighted all the players involved on the varsity, junior varsity and C-squad teams. Awards were also handed out, as coaches reflected on the year that their teams had.
This past year the varsity team finished the season with a record of 14 wins and 12 losses. It was the first winning season for Kimball boys' basketball in 10 years. Members of the varsity team this past season included: (seniors) Ty Filzen, Neil Helgeson, Taylor Kuseske, Dillon Menson, and Brett Ostby, (juniors) Aaron Laabs, Cole Sanders, Seke Snead and Tritton Tschida, (sophomores) Cole Denn, Ed Nielsen, Preston Peglow, Austin Roerick and Austyn Schlueter,
(freshmen) Cameron Hunt. Statisticians on this year's team included: Dallas Newman, Nate Overland, Ben Serbus, Tanner Schreifels and video technician Adam Laabs.
A number of awards were given out the night of the banquet. Letter winners for the 2010-2011 season included: Ty Filzen, Neil Helgeson, Taylor Kuseske, Dillon Menson, Brett Ostby, Aaron Laabs, Seke Snead, Cole Denn, Preston Peglow and Cameron Hunt. The Cubs had three players named to the Central Minnesota All-Conference Team. Neil Helgeson and Dillon Menson were first team all-conference. Brett Ostby was second team all-conference. Brett Ostby and Cameron Hunt were named to the Central Minnesota Academic All-Conference Team. The Defensive MVP Award went to Ty Filzen and the Offensive MVP Award went to Neil Helgeson. Seke Snead was named Most Improved Player and Austin Roerick received the Hustle Award. Kimball also had two Conference Players of the Week during the season who were Neil Helgeson and Dillon Menson. Ed Nielsen and Cameron Hunt received an award for being members of the 200-Hour Club.
The basketball banquet put the finishing touches on a very successful season for the Kimball boys' basketball program. All the coaches would like to thank the players, the player's parents, and all the fans for making the season very special and one to remember.
