Roses have long been America's favorite flower and with the development of new varieties that differ from the standard shrub rose, they are becoming increasingly more popular.
Learn more about growing beautiful roses at Rose Education Day Saturday, April 30, at Whitney Senior Center, 1527 Northway Drive, St. Cloud. Registration for this free workshop will take place from 8 to 8:30 a.m. followed by three educational sessions ending at noon.
Registrants will participate in three presentations by American Rose Society consulting rosarians, University of Minnesota Extension Educators and experienced rose growers. Kathy Zusek, Extension Educator in Horticulture specializing in woody plants, will present on University of Minnesota rose research and the Northern Accents Roses, hardy shrub roses developed at the University of Minnesota. James Beardsley, ARS Consulting Rosarian and MN Rose Society member will be presenting, "The Ten Commandments of Growing Roses." Finally, Tom Roi, ARS Consulting Rosarian and Lake Superior Rose Society President and Debra Keiser, Clemens Rose Specialist, ARS Consulting Rosarian and Granite City Rose Society President will be presenting to attendees about Pruning Miniature & Tree Roses.
There will be limited quantities of roses and rose-care products available for purchase. This includes Bob's Mix fertilizer, some varieties of Week's hardy shrub roses and Pinetree Miniature Roses will have miniature roses for sale during registration and during breaks between presentations.
