Members of the Kingston Johnson Kelly Post 483 American Legion and Auxiliary met Tuesday evening, March 29, at the Kingston American Legion Hall for their regular monthly meeting.
March is American Legion Month. Honoring the Kingston American Legion members, the auxiliary members served a pot luck supper which was enjoyed by all present. The auxiliary members also sang Happy Birthday Legion Members to help celebrate 50 years in the Kingston Johnson-Kelly Post 483 American Legion.
The commander is Gary Mansicka. After the meal, each unit held separate meetings.
President Chris Jeppesen called the American Legion Auxiliary meeting to order. All repeated the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States, and sang one stanza of the National Anthem "The Star Spangled Banner," and repeated the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary. The business meeting resumed.
President Chris Jeppesen presented the program forms to be filled which are due by April 15.
March is American Legion Birthday Month, as well as Community Service Month.
Some of the programs the auxiliary members took part in were: Home Beautification, presenting an audience with a musical program, children's piano presentations, for Senior Citizens, assisting at Senior Dining, Bloodmobile, donating items to the food shelf, giving rides to the library and grocery shopping for Senior Citizens, Home Service collecting stamps, postal cards, Campbell Soup labels, etc., as well as veterans' programs.
Our department president Darlene Wondra's theme is "Vision and Voice for Veterans," in 2011. "Vision" as we continue our work in our Kingston Johnson Kelly Auxiliary year program. "Voice" to let our legislators know how we stand on veterans' issues.
April is "Children-Youth Month," The Month of the Military Child, a time to protect, care for, and support children of a veteran and for military families.
April is also a time to recognize our auxiliary members who spend so many hours volunteering for our many programs. We support our American Legion members, and thank and salute all our men and women in action in the military services in faraway lands.
