Members of Lake Union Covenant Church gathered Sunday morning, March 27, after church in a ground-breaking ceremony for their new church building. (Because the ground was frozen solid, it was more of a photo-op than an actual digging.) The new building has been a dream project for several years now. Two of the key proponents of the building project, Ron Strand and his cousin Lowell Olson, did not live to see this day. At least one person commented Sunday that they were, no doubt, looking down from heaven and smiling on them. The new building will incorporate the newer portions of the existing building. The church is located on the southeast side of Union Lake, on a hill overlooking the lake. Real work at the site could begin this week, if weather permits. Staff photo by Jean Doran Matua.
