Catholic students and schools came through to raise an amazing amount of money for Catholic education. Students and educators of Holy Cross School of Kimball, didn't let record snowfalls stop them from selling mountains of raffle tickets this winter. Together with raffle sponsor Catholic United Financial (formerly Catholic Aid Association), these hard workers sold 1,358 tickets and raised more than $6,790. Every penny of the money raised goes directly into school accounts, thanks to Catholic United providing the promotions, printing and prizes involved in the raffle.

In total, the Catholic Schools Raffle raised more than $344,965 with 46 schools participating in Minnesota and South Dakota, smashing the raffle goal of $250,000. Students, parents and educators sold 68,993 raffle tickets from Jan. 24 to March 4. Official winners of the raffle drawing were announced as soon as they were verified and the winners were contacted. The drawing ceremony for the Catholic Schools Raffle was held at 11 a.m. March 10.

"The results from this year's raffle have floored us," said Michael McGovern, president of Catholic United, a fraternal life insurance and benefits company. "What a fantastic outpouring of support for our schools from the Catholic community. We're proud to sponsor this event, and excited to see it come to a successful conclusion. Congratulations to our schools."

The winner of the grand prize of a new GMC Terrain SUV or $25,000 cash is Rhonda Christopherson of Big Stone City, S.D. Christopherson purchased the ticket to support St. Lawrence Catholic School in Milbank, S.D. Candee Cloos, the Catholic United Sales Representative for the Milbank area, attended the raffle ceremony in person and immediately called Christopherson to let her know she had won. Catholic United staff will present the cash prize to Christopherson during a ceremony on March 30, at St. Lawrence School in Milbank. Other raffle prizes included a cruise vacation, Toshiba laptop computer, Nintendo Wii game consoles, Apple iPads and more.

Catholic United recognized Ashley Haus as the top student ticket seller at Holy Cross School.
