In a small, volunteer fire department there's no room for specialization. Everyone is cross-trained to do every task. That includes driving any of the fire and rescue vehicles. Kimball received a grant to cover all of the $3,500 cost for computerized driving training that was completed over three days last week for all members of the department. Above, Rose Borman is at the seat in the computerized fire truck simulator from St. Cloud Technical College. Instructor Scott Dingmann guided each driver, one at a time, through a number of challenges including equipment breakdown, pedestrian traffic, weather problems, and inattentive drivers in other vehicles. Another component of the training was watching a safety video. Staff photo by Jean Doran Matua.
