St. Augusta burglary, arrest
Monday, March 21, at about 11:51 p.m., the Stearns County Sheriff's Office received a report of a burlary alarm at the St. Augusta Mini-Serve convenience store in St. Augusta. When deputies arrived, they found that the glass door had been broken open. Store management reported that cartons of cigarettes were missing.
While responding to the alarm, a deputy noticed a vehicle in the area and he recorded the license number. That information eventually led deputies and Waite Park Police Officers to a Waite Park residence. Deputies tried to make contact with people inside the residence, but were unsuccessful. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence. Once inside, deputies found some of the cartons of cigarettes and other evidence that linked some of the occupants to the burglary.
Deputies arrested Michael Gene Wood, age 18, of Waite Park and John Ross Gray, age 18, of Sartell for third-degree burglary and booked them into the Stearns County Jail. They were released pending a future court appearance. The investigation is continuing and future suspects may be identified.
