Members of the Kingston Johnson Kelly Post 483 American Legion and Auxiliary met Wednesday Evening, Feb. 23, for their regular monthly meeting. They joined in repeating the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag, singing the National Anthem, and repeating the Preamble to the Constitution. Separate business meetings were held.
Chris Jeppesen, president of the auxiliary, called the meeting to order. Roll call of officers and members was taken, and reading of the minutes and treasurer's report. Reports by the president continued the meeting.
Home Service Program report by Ann Hamilton on the stamp collecting program, all members will collect commemorative, forever and foreign stamps, also promotional stamps and picture post cards. We also are doing Campbell Soup labels and school education box top coupons. Barb Root is chairman of the Children and Youth Program. Funds are used for ALA Hospital Program and hospitalized veterans.
Plans are being made for the annual American Legion and Lions Kingston Fish Fry for Friday, March 18, at Kingston American Legion Hall/Community Center.
Everyone, join us for our annual fish dinner.
March is American Legion Birthday month. We will honor our veteran Legion members with a pot luck dinner at 6:30.
Our president announced Annual Program Records will be filled out at the March meeting (bring all your notes).
January was National Security Month, Legislative Month. Do we know who are representing us in Congress? At the State Capitol in
St. Paul? What District I live in?
February is Americanism Month, a national salute to hospitalized veterans was observed in several VA hospitals Feb. 11, as well as at our Minnesota State Capitol Feb. 15 by Minnesota veterans. Governor Mark Dayton was the speaker.
February is also Health and Heart Month. Let's remember our veterans, and our brave soldiers and all that are in foreign lands fighting to keep us free!
March is Community Service: American Legion Birthday month. The Kingston American Legion Post 483 was organized May 10, 1960. First officers were commander George Saukkola, adjutant was Harry Sikkila, first vice commander Art Cooley, and sergeant at arms Robert Arens.
There has been a name change. The St. Cloud VA Medical Center is now called the St. Cloud VA Health Care System. The Department of Veterans Affairs continues to improve health care service to veterans. The address is the same.
Feb. 13-19, was National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans week.
