Truck goes through ice; crime blotter

Pickup truck falls into Pearl Lake

Friday, Feb. 25, shortly after

6 p.m., the Stearns County Sheriff's Office took a report that a 2004 one-ton Chevrolet Silverado had gone through the ice on Pearl Lake. The driver Bryan Spychala, age 42, of Waite Park said that he was driving on a previously plowed road on Pearl Lake. Spychala said that the front of his truck broke through first and he saw water entering the cab area. Spychala was able to exit from the truck through the driver side window. Spychala did not enter the water and was not harmed. It is believed that a fish house was previously moved and that created a weak spot in the ice where the truck went through. The Sheriff's Office would like to remind people that with spring time coming to remember that the ice will be thinning and to use caution and common sense when going on to the ice.
