The Kimball girls' basketball team wrapped up the regular season last week facing two conference opponents. The first being at Pierz where the Pioneers had revenge on their mind from an earlier-season Kimball victory. Kimball could never get going in the first half as they trailed 26-18 at halftime, and in the second half the Pioneers took control with a 62-29 win. Later in the week, B-B-E traveled to Kimball in the regular season finale where again the Cubs had won the first round matchup between these two teams, but B-B-E would prevail in the rematch.
Kimball led for most of the first half until B-B-E hit a buzzer beater from beyond the three-point line to take a 27-25 lead into the half. In the second half, B-B-E extended its lead to as much as 12 points, but Kimball closed the lead to 41-39, with just over four minutes to play. Kimball couldn't keep the run going in the final minutes, however, as the Jaguars finished with a 45-41 win.
The scoring line for the two games combined went as follows: Megan Garding 15, Brooke Merten 15, Rachel Arnold 11, Natalie Stein eight, Liz Kastanek eight, Erin Dingmann five, Sam Stuve three, Mandy Wittenberg three, Shannon Donnay two. Rebounding leaders were Garding with 16, Wittenberg nine, and Arnold seven. Steals leaders were Arnold with seven, Kastanek five, and Stein three. The Cubs finish the regular season with a 13-11 record overall, 7-7 in the CMC.
Kimball will enter into the Sub Section 5AA North playoffs this Thursday, March 3, as a #3 seed facing the #6 seeded PACT/Spectrum Panthers. The first-round game will be in Kimball at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 3. If Kimball wins, they will play in St. Michael at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 8, and the subsection championship is scheduled at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, in Dassel-Cokato. Go Big Blue!
