Thursday, Feb. 24, shortly after 8 p.m., Albany Fire, Melrose Ambulance, Albany Police, MN State Patrol, and Stearns County Sheriff's Department responded to a 2-sled snowmobile crash on Highway 238 and 225th Avenue in Albany Township, about one mile north of Albany.
The 2008 Polaris Pro785 was north-bound driven by Thomas Bernard Spoden, age 44 of Holdingford. The 2002 Polaris Supersport was south-bound driven by Layne Delbert Johnson, age 48 of Albany. Both were on the groomed trail on the west side of Highway 238 when the two sleds met and crashed into each other. Both drivers were thrown from their sleds. Bother were taken to the St. Cloud Hospital for injuries sustaind in the crash. Spoden was treated and released. Johnson was admitted to the hospital and is being treated for his injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.
