Bernadette "Bernie" Woodford of Kimball died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Heritage House Assisted Living in Kimball. She was 74.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 Wednesday, July 8, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Kimball with Rev. Thomas Olson officiating. Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m.Tuesday evening with a sharing-and-caring session from 7 to 8 p.m.at St. Anne's Church for anyone who wanted to participate. Also a viewing was one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Longville, Minn., a place she dearly loved.
Bernadette M. "Bernie" Woodford, the oldest of eight children, was born March 10, 1935, in Fargo, N.D., to Lawrence and Agnes (Welch) Benzmiller. She married Keith Woodford Aug. 6, 1955, at St. James Catholic Church in Page, N.D. The couple lived in North Dakota, Minnesota, and Florida, before settling in Kimball.
Bernie was self-employed as a seamstress in Florida for several years. They left Florida to travel the flea market circuit for several years. They settled in Kimball in 1994. Bernie enjoyed sewing, baking, cake decorating, knitting and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed going to church until the last few years when she was unable to sit for very long. She really enjoyed her spoiled Pompoo, Muffin, and could be seen almost every morning walking her all around Kimball. Bernie was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and enjoyed her 33 years of sobriety.
Bernie was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband Keith of more than 53 years; children Keith Jr. (and Sheri) of Manannah, Minn., Leo (and Priscilla) of San Diego, Calif., Michael of South Haven, Barbara Jean of Kimball, Sherry (and Donnie) Cotton of Ocala, Fla., Patrick (and Kim) of Dassel, and Lisa (and John) White of Elk River; brothers and sisters Lawrence (and Gloria) of Texarkana, Tex., Michael of Chicago, Ill., Margaret (and Ralph) Hendrickson of Coon Rapids, Frances (and Keith) Knudson of Rapid City, S.D., Teresa Ford of Grasston, Minn., Catherine (and Lester) Backer of Lake Park, Minn., Mary (and friend Morrie) Kressin of Laramore, N.D.; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Bernie was a beautiful and a caring person and will be missed by everyone who new her.
