During a 3-day weekend in late May, nine artists came together to create art work at the Paramount Art Center. No one created the same type of work, making it an interesting and diverse collection of pieces that are now on exhibit at the Paramount Art Gallery throughout the summer.
Artists include Lisa Carlson, Caron Lage, Jo Schwalboski, Jessica Hagen, Heidi Steadman, Jill Dubbeldee Kuhn, Kat Patton, Sasha Sparks and Stacy Zeigler. Steadman, the coordinator for the event, says, "This group of women has such a diverse view of their world, and we all had a lot of fun creating together, while respecting each other's process and outcome." While Steadman worked primarily on multimedia collage and book design, Lisa Carlson and Jill Dubbeldee Kuhn molded clay, Kat Patton and Sasha Sparks focused on illustrative drawings, and Jo Schalboski continued the details of Russian Zhostovo style of painting. Jessica Hagen manipulated photographic images onto handmade photopaper; Stacy Zeigler put hours into a unique corset and blouse design while Caron Lage created a crazy quilt.
While the work presented wasprimarily created during the long weekend in May, additional work was included in the exhibition. Lage included 540 blocks of her "And Still Counting" Project. Steadman included work from her recent artistic excursion into printmaking and letterpress, from a recent Minnesota State Arts Board grant through the Five Wings Arts Council.
