Volunteers are needed to escort veterans to the program.
A Memorial Day program will be held at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center on Monday, May 25, 2009.
The program, which is coordinated by the St. Cloud Area Metropolitan Veterans Council (MetroVets), will be held at Building 96, Recreation Building, on the west end of the VA campus, near the Veterans Golf Course. Events will begin with a mini-parade at 10:30 a.m., followed by the ceremony at 11:00 a.m. This year's keynote speaker will be James C. Fischer, Ph.D., Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army. Lieutenant Colonel Fischer is professor of Military Science at St. John's University. Music will be provided by the St. Cloud Municipal Band. The public is invited to join veterans and patients at this ceremony. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs as seating is very limited.
Many volunteers are needed to escort patients to the program and enjoy the morning together. To volunteer, contact Voluntary Service at (320) 255-6365.
Metro Vets and St. Cloud VA Medical Center encourage all citizens to participate in the National "Moment of Remembrance". This Moment of Remembrance asks all Americans to pause for one minute simultaneously at 2:00 p.m. CDT on Memorial Day, to honor those who have died in their nation's defense and to keep the true meaning and spirit of Memorial Day alive.
